Replating a vintage razor definitely has its advantages as I discussed in my previous blog article and video. This is the second razor I've had replated in Rhodium by the Razor Emporium and I think it turned out wonderfully.
Before replating this 1922 Gillette New Improved razor I found to shave rough. I often had weepers after a shave and they weren't the mild kind. After replating things improved a bit but I still hadn't found a blade that functioned as I wanted in this razor. I tried many of my favorite razor blades without success. Then I pulled out an old favorite that I had forgotten about and hadn't used in many months, a SuperMax Super Platinum blade. It worked much better in this razor. I had always thought for me the Super Max Super Platinum was very similar to a PolSilver Super Iridium blade...very smooth and quite sharp. This proves to show that you just have to experiment and try different combinations of things until you hit on the right blade for a particular razor. You might think that is strange and any razor blade should function equally well in any razor, but it just isn't so. Some blades work better in some razors.
I just love Eva Nestorova's Goat Milk Shaving Soaps. In this shave I used her Bay Rum Shaving Soap. It lathers well and is very slick. I have found that all bay rum shaving products be it Coachman's Virgin Island Bay Rum After Shave, this soap or any other soap or bay rum after shave causes my face to experience a "tingle" similar to the sensation of mentholated products. It's not a burn and it isn't because too much essential oils were used in producing the soap. It's just the way I personally experience and sense bay rum...it tingles.
I was listening to a drive time radio program recently and they were presenting the top ten or twelve things guys should or shouldn't do after turning 50 years of age. One thing they kept talking about was to "lay on the moisturizers" and that the secret to looking younger was to moisturize you skin well. As I thought about that I had realized that over the past few months as I viewed a few of my videos over time that I looked older. I chalked it up to stress. My thoughts then turned to my shaving practices. I had stopped using balms several months ago after the dry days of winter had passed. So I started using my favorite moisturizing balm Every Man Jack Post Shave Face Lotion again. I think I've noticed a difference in my skin's appearance since then. Moisturizing lotion of some kind is definitely needed year round, even when you don't have skin irritation.
I tested out my new smartphone camera with this video. I wondered if it would do any better than my regular Samsung camera. Well, you can tell me your opinion but I think I won't be using my cell phone camera in the future unless I decide to do a two camera shoot again. I don't think it looks as good and the color is off a bit too. So here's my video. I hope you enjoy it.
