Wet Shaving: Substance (Truth) versus Hype (Marketing): Introduction
It has been several months since I have written a blog article or produced a shaving video. There are several reasons for my absence. First and probably foremost has been that my life has been in transition since the death of my spouse almost a year ago. Many things in my life has changed. One change has been that my hobby of traditional wet shaving has taken a back seat in both my passion and my attention. My love for traditional wet shaving remains, yet I just don’t have the time or energy to devote to it as I once did. In time that may change, but for now I shall only occasionally produce a blog article and video.
Having done about 100 videos it is difficult to come up with any new ideas that I haven’t already commented on previously. In other words being inspired is somewhat of a challenge. I have not totally extracted myself from the shaving related Facebook groups and internet sites but I have become more of an observer than a participant in the last year. One of the things I noticed is that there has been an explosion of new people interested in traditional wet shaving. That means there are many who are just beginning to learn about wet shaving and particularly the traditional methods.
Another thing I have observed is that there are quite a few new producers of videos and blogs and an ever growing up cropping of new groups about traditional wet shaving. Consequently it has become even more daunting a task for a person new to traditional wet shaving to know who to believe and what to purchase and the products to use.
It had been several months since I went onto a shaving products online store. When I logged onto one of my favorite merchant sites I was overwhelmed by the explosion of new products and the vast variety that is now available. A few short years ago we traditional wet shaving hobbyists we on a constant scramble to just find the basic products that were still available in the marketplace. The challenge then was finding a place to purchase a shave soap or cream. Now the challenge is deciding which one from the hundreds that are readily available. I can see how it is confusing to someone just starting.
So in that light I will be doing a series of new blogs and videos geared to cutting through some of the hype and marketing chatter related to wet shaving and getting down to the basics. The bare essentials that someone needs to know about wet shaving and specifically traditional wet shaving.
I don’t have any particular time frame for completing these blog articles and videos but I will attempt to do them on a somewhat regular basis over the next weeks and months. I am not sure the sequence I will produce them but the basic topics will be the following: Blades and Shaving Instruments (razors), The Lather (shaving creams and soaps), Brushes, Balms, Aftershaves and Colognes, Pre and Post Shave Products and Methods, plus other things as they rise to the surface of my brain.
Below is the accompanying video introducing this series. I hope you enjoy.
So until next time,
